This course clarifies the fundamental concepts behind the notion of Web services and presents them as the natural evolution of conventional middleware, necessary to meet the challenges of the Web and of B2B application integration. The main objectives of Web services, the challenges that must be faced to achieve them, and the opportunities provided by this technology are discussed. Established, as well as recently proposed, standards and techniques (e.g., XML, SOAP, WSDL, REST, and various WS-* specifications), are examined in the context of this discussion in order to emphasize their scope, benefits, and shortcomings.
The agenda might change due to the lecturer traveling obligations. Please check this page on regular bases. WS-01-DistributedInformationSystems.ppt WS-01-DistributedInformationSystems_01.pdf
The aim of this seminar (PS) is to further explore the topics discussed in the Web Services lectures by answering questions and solving problems directly related to distributed architectures and Web services. The seminar follows closely the lecture's material. Exercise sheets will be handed out each week. Students will present their solutions the following week.
